An authentic resort
The history of Saint Jean d’Aulps dates back to the 18th century. Saint Jean d’Aulps was initially a very religious place where many monks lived. It had an abbey around which the surrounding hamlets grew up.
Today, each winter season, the village sets itself up as an authentic and natural ski resort. You can still visit the abbey from where you can set out on many walks and hikes that offer a different view of the valley.
In addition, all the essential shops are available in the resort: clothing stores, restaurants, bars, ski hire shops … they’ve got it all covered!
Roc d’Enfer ski area
You can access two different ski areas from Saint Jean d’Aulps: Roc d’Enfer and Portes du Soleil, the ski area connected to Avoriaz.
Roc d’Enfer has 50 km of pistes served by 16 ski lifts. Half of the slopes are suitable for beginners who can hone their technique on the green and blue runs. 12 red downhills will delight advanced skiers. There are also 2 black runs for thrill-seeking experts!
Another major asset for the resort is its access to the Portes du Soleil ski area. 650 km of additional ski terrain awaits! 195 modern ski lifts make it easy to get around the ski area. Snow cover is guaranteed throughout the season by 694 snow cannons.
